How to Change Your Facebook Page Username

Facebook Page Username Illustration

Over the years, Facebook has grown from  just having a few thousands of users - mainly based in the U.S.A. to a global social network with millions of monthly visitors. A couple of years back, the Facebook Group came up with the page feature for Facebook to provide businesses (both large and small) and creators (both popular and upcoming) with the tools they need to create an online presence and also keep their customers and fans engaged. Almost all business men and women on Facebook have pages. We shouldn't even talk about those in the creative industry (musicians, bands, dancers, video makers, photographers, producers, et cetra), because presently, it seems like for every one Facebook account belonging to a creator, there's a page attached to it. Yeah, "Wow!" That's how popular Facebook pages have become.

It's important to note that just the same way every Facebook account has a username (not to be mistaken with your profile name - which is the name that everyone on or off Facebook can see on your profile. Just like the name that publicly represents your account), every page too has a username. To view your Facebook profile directly on the web, using a browser (e.g. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer), you need your profile link, which may look like this: "https://www.facebook.com/placiidjay.rap". In the link, "placiidjay.rap" is the Facebook user's username, although his profile name may be something like "Lord Placiidjay". This same (permit me to say) "principle" is applicable to Facebook pages too. Take for instance, Mr. Ben Kendrick has a Facebook page by the name: "Ben Table Water Inc." for his table water company, but anytime he loads the page on his computer or mobile browser, he sees a link like: "https://www.facebook.com/Ben-Table-Water-Inc-998735". This is to tell that your Facebook page link do not automatically appear the way you want it. You need to go an extra mile to make it appear the way you want and the only way to do that is by changing your page username. So how do you change your Facebook page username?

Login To Your Account Illustration

1. Login to your account.

If you're already logged in to your Facebook account, skip this step and start from step two (2). If not, to get started, you need to login to the Facebook account that manages the page you want to edit by inputting your phone number or email and password in the login page and clicking "login". If you're using a mobile device, login to your account on Facebook's main mobile app and not the Facebook lite app, because the "lite version" of Facebook currently do not have this particular page editing tool that we're about to use. If you're using a laptop or desktop computer, input Facebook site link: "https://www.facebook.com/" in your browser and follow the steps already mentioned above to login.

2. Go to your facebook page.

In the Facebook app or web version, click on the button at the top right corner of the homepage (or news feed page) that looks like three (3) dashes on each other. Click on "pages", then select the page you would like to edit.

3. Edit Page.

In your Facebook page, a set of page management buttons are provided in the tool bar located just below your cover photo and page name, these buttons are: the "post" button (that has an icon that looks like a pencil on paper), the "photo" button (that has an icon that looks like a camera), the "promote" button (that has an icon that looks like a megaphone), the "view as" button (that has an icon that looks like an eye), the "edit page" button (that has an icon that looks like a pencil). But what we'll be using is the "edit page" button, so click on it.

4. Edit Header.

When you click the "edit page" button, different parts and features of your page are displayed and you are to choose which part or feature you'd like to edit. Select the section that reads: "page header". Now, only your page header will be displayed containing your page cover photo and profile picture; page name in big blood text and a smaller light text under it that reads: "@username". Click on this text and a space will be provided for you to input an available (unused) username of your choice. Let's take for instance, if Mr. Ben no longer wants his Facebook page link to be: "https://www.facebook.com/Ben-Table-Water-Inc-998735", but rather: "https://www.facebook.com/BenTableWaterInc" for his "Ben Table Water Inc." page, then all he has to do is input "BenTableWaterInc" and if it's not already taken by another Facebook page, it becomes his page's username, otherwise he'll have to add or subtract (an extra) character(s) until he gets a username for his business page that's available.
