China Blames U.S. for Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

The spokesperson criticized the weapon shipments for escalating the conflict as it neared its one-year anniversary. 

"The U.S. is the one that started the Ukraine Crisis and the primary factor fueling it and has kept sending heavy and assault weaponry to Ukraine, which has only prolonged and worsened the conflict." 

In answer to a query regarding claims made by the United States that Chinese businesses were providing assistance to the Russian side, she made the remarks. 

As "unjustified suspicion and baseless blackmail," she criticized the allegations. 

China "won't sit by and watch the U.S. undermine the lawful rights and interests of Chinese firms," Mao continued. 

In February 2022, Russia started an extensive military assault of Ukraine. 

Invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces at full strength began in February 2022. 

China's People's Republic, a Russian ally, has not denounced Russia's activities. 

Just days before U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken's expected visit to Beijing on Sunday and Monday, diplomatic tensions between China and the U.S. have risen. 

The United States' secretary of state hasn't been to China since Blinken's trip there in 2018. 

The American government has received a warning from the Chinese Foreign Ministry regarding its support for Taiwan, which China considers to be a renegade province. 

Taiwan has traditionally received armaments from the United States, which also provides the independent island with a lot of military assistance. 

Mao advised against crossing any "red lines" when it comes to its backing of Taiwan.
